Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) were founded in the 1800s and have since become an integral source of education for Black students. Comprising of 3% of America’s post-secondary institutions, HBCUs graduate 25% of Black Americans with undergraduate degrees. Like all universities, traditional academic programs alone aren’t enough to support students’ transition between educational institutions and entrance to the workforce. That’s where The HBCU Career Center comes in.
The HBCU Career Center is on a mission to support the career development of HBCU students and alumni by bridging the gap between educational and work life, all while helping organizations diversify teams and hire amazing HBCU talent. We do this by providing career resources as well as connecting employers with talent through our job board.
At The HBCU Career Center we are focused on making sure:
Graduates are career-ready with a job or a plan at graduation
Employers value HBCUs as a talent source for inclusive workplaces
Americans know the role HBCUs have played in building a diverse workforce
HBCUs provide relevant and timely career information and job resources
Students develop necessary job skills for the workplace
Workers know how automation will impact their future of work
Professionals stay aware of workplace, career, HR and industry trends, practices and success habits
State of HBCU Career Centers Survey
