Proud HBCU Alum, Shirah Ray, is Designing Success on Her Own Terms

Shirah Ray, a proud HBCU alum, is a fashion stylist known as "Queen of Scene." She established David Lee's Boutique in 2006 as a store "curated for powerful women with elevated style."
Most recently, Ray began creating her own designs including The Colored Block Pant Suit which has been wildly successful. According to Blacknews.com, her suit sold out in an hour.
With a B.S. in Business Administration from Southern University of New Orleans, Ray’s business acumen and resilience have been honed over time, enabling the success of her business which has largely been rooted in market research and trend recognition.
David Lee's currently operates exclusively online. Ray pivoted to e-commerce after two storefronts were unsuccessful. The boutique is named after her late father whose style was an early inspiration.
Ray recently reflected, “I now realize relying solely on the store was only holding me back. I’m connecting with women all over the world. I’m leveraging my presence as a boutique owner, stylist, and fashion personality to expand into designing and manufacturing, all while investing in the marketing that ultimately helped build a strong brand presence.”
According to "Warrior Women Essentials," Ray has styled the likes of Melanie Hebert, Rosa Dee Flores, Sheba Turk, April Dupre, HGTV personalities Anicka Jones Marshall and Shauna Williams, the State Director of Miss Black Louisiana Organization, Tiffany Magee, and President, CEO, & owner of the Spears Group, Cleveland Spears.
