Nick Cannon Pays off Student Loan Debt for NCAT Graduates

Actor, producer, and entertainer Nick Cannon recently surprised a few historically black college and university, or HBCU, students during his new talk show. Cannon announced that he would be assisting them in paying off student loan debt upon graduation.

Among those that Cannon will be extending a helping hand to is a student attending North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCAT), Christian “CDK on the Mic” Kornegay.

Cannon himself is a HBCU graduate of Howard University in the nation’s capital.

In an interview with #InsideNCAT, Kornegay shared his incredible story, saying that, “Nick Cannon blessed me by canceling all of my student debts from North Carolina A&T after I got my degree.”

He continued, “It was a month-long process, but it was a great process as far as getting my story out there and telling my testimony because somebody is going through exactly what I went through.”

Kornegay is referring to the learning disability he had when he was younger and his path to college. Ultimately, it inspired him to go on and attend the country’s largest HBCU.

Aside from that, the senior journalism and mass communication scholar is well known on campus as a vibrant student media personality and DJ, per the school’s official website.

Additionally, Kornegay has a younger brother who is a sophomore at historically black Winston-Salem State University. Kornegay decided to take a semester off during the pandemic to help support his family and allow his brother to get the whole black college undergrad experience. They are both first-generation college students.

The NCAT senior said that words can’t describe how it feels to finally be able to go back in the spring and finish out strong, saying that, “it’s going to be amazing.”

“I was so moved by your stories and the obstacles you all have overcome that I want to help you out,” Cannon said during his talk show about the HBCU seniors he has blessed.

He added, “So, our show has partnered with some of the biggest national scholarship providers, such as the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, to grant each of you a scholarship to cover your outstanding educational loan balance.”

He then promised that once they earned their college degree, “We’re wiping out your student debt.”
