Coppin State University Opens New College of Business Building

Coppin State University, an HBCU in West Baltimore, Maryland, celebrated the opening of its new College of Business on October 19, 2023. The design for the new building began in 2019 with Victor Orale as the Design Principal and construction started in July 2020. The $45.8 million building was funded through the State of Maryland.

The new building will allow Coppin to support undergraduates and graduates in financial planning and wealth management programs.

In addition to state-of-the-art classrooms, the new building includes conference rooms, resource centers, and a production studio for small entertainment projects.

The inaugural Closing the Wealth Gap Summit was launched alongside the grand opening of the new College of Business building in partnership with Charles Schwab Foundation and Schwab Advisor Services.

The summit aims to raise awareness about wealth-building strategies and financial literacy to empower HBCU students and alums.

This partnership between Coppin and Schwab also includes the opening of the Charles Schwab Community Wealth Center, which will host workshops and discussions for alums, students, and the larger community.

A grant through Coppin's strategic partnership with the Charles Schwab Foundation will allow Coppin to host this summit annually and provide scholarships to students. Additionally, Coppin students will be introduced to financial services courses and paired with mentors working in the financial industry.
